Although this week was initially supposed to be an exciting one for Destiny players thanks to the announcement of the House of Wolves expansion’s release date, it was anything but. Hidden within the good news of Destiny DLC and post-release content was a real bombshell: there would be no new Destiny raid.
As a result, most players were appropriately frustrated with Bungie, and many started to sour on Destiny (those that hadn’t already). Obviously, the new raid wasn’t the only new experience Destiny players were looking forward to from House of Wolves, but it was certainly at the top of the list. Now, it may be several months until Bungie releases a new raid, and there’s no telling whether it will be free.
So, after a pretty disappointing week, Destiny players could surely use something uplifting. Would the exotic vendor Xur show up with something for players to be excited about? Read on to find out.
This week Xur can be found in the Tower hangar. Head to the right immediately after spawning in and follow the sets of stairs to the very back of the area. There, tucked away in the corner, should be Xur.
Unfortunately, Xur doesn’t have anything too special available for Destiny players this week. On the armor front, he has the Helm of Inmost Light, which is a decent Titan helmet for Crucible fans, but the other two exotic armor pieces aren’t anything special. The Voidfang Vestments have been on Xur’s menu for dozens of weeks now, so there are likely very few Warlocks who don’t already own the chest piece, and the Radiant Dance Machines just aren’t that useful. Carrying extra heavy ammo is nice, but the Crota’s End raid boots carry that same ability and they don’t take up an exotic slot.
Xur’s exotic weapon this week is The Last Word, a fast-firing hand cannon that’s pretty deadly in the Crucible. Hand cannon fans who like something with a little more speed with certainly want to pick up The Last Word, but it’s worth mentioning there are other worthwhile options out there.
For a full rundown of Xur’s items and prices see the list below:
Helm of Inmost Light (Titan Helmet) – 13 Strange Coins Radiant Dance Machines (Hunter DLC Boots) – 13 Strange Coins Voidfang Vestments (Warlock Chest Piece) – 13 Strange Coins The Last Word (Hand Cannon) – 23 Strange Coins Exotic Shard – 7 Strange Coins Exotic Chest Engram – 23 Motes of Light
This week, Xur has the following armor and weapons available for upgrading:
Knucklehead Radar Achylophage Symbiote Crest of Alpha Lupi (Titan) The Armamentarium Heart of Praxic Fire Sunbreakers Hard Light Suros Regime Red Death Thorn Plan C Patience and Time Hawkmoon
Overall, nothing too special in Xur’s selection this week, so players hoping for a pick-me-up are likely going to come away disappointed. Still, now that we know House of Wolves releases on May 19th, we can start counting the days until Xur will have new items in his inventory.
