Bearing all of this in mind, it’s no wonder why fans often come back for more of the sci-fi first-person shooter. However, today’s news regarding Destiny may upset many long-time supporters of the game, as Bungie has now confirmed that older legendary weapons’ and armor’s power will not progress on par with Year Two’s gear. Plus, it’s also important to note that Bungie will be injecting dozens of new armory items into the game so as to breathe fresh life into the title’s MMO style of item collection and discovery.
According to Game Informer, only the best equipment from Year One will sustain Guardians throughout the first several hours of Destiny’s The Taken King, for the inclusion of up-to-date weapons and armor will almost immediately replace the title’s original trappings due to new perks, as well as increased attack and defensive values. Additionally, the change’s depreciation of older legendary items is necessary, because gear progression flow has been altered with The Taken King DLC, meaning the white, green, blue, and purple hardware tiers better differentiate themselves from one another.
Regarding the new weapon designs and modified supplies, Bungie’s Creative Director Luke Smith says:
Although Smith and his team have surely put a lot of time and effort into ensuring The Taken King’s gear will be much more potent and user-friendly than Destiny’s Year One equipment, it’s unquestionable that many fans will take the news poorly. For instance, a lot of players are going to be sad when once-favorites like Vision of Confluence and Fatebringer eventually become phased out. Nevertheless, Destiny fans should keep an open mind as far as the issue goes, for we will only know if the changes are any good once The Taken King releases to the public.
What do you think about Bungie devaluing Destiny’s Year One weapons and armor? Will it dissuade you from buying The Taken King once it goes on sale?
