After the pricing scheme for Destiny: The Taken King was announced a few months ago, many fans were left confused or even off put at the steeper than normal price. Bungie has since been detailing the content players will be getting in this new expansion, and just recently, fans now have an idea at just how big this update will be.

In an interview with IGN, Bungie’s community manager, Eric “Urk” Osborne, confirmed that Destiny: The Taken King contains at least double the content from previous expansion The Dark Below. The big focus of The Taken King outside of new weapons and gear will be centered around its full campaign supported by stronger storytelling within a ship called the Dreadnaught.

In addition to the new Dreadnaught destination where players will spend the majority of their time, The Taken King is adding three new Strikes which Osborne calls “the best Strikes we’ve delivered to date”, along with seven new Crucible maps for players to tackle. Not only that, but the King’s Fall raid will open up and three Strikes from previous “Year One” content will be updated and remixed with Taken enemies.

Osborne does have a point about the size of this content as The Taken King immediately adds something to the game that the previous expansions don’t: a completely new destination to patrol. By comparison The Dark Below added four story missions to existing playspaces, one PlayStation exclusive Strike, one new Strike, Crota’s End raid and new Crucible maps along with additional gear. While adding similar content like Strikes, Crucible maps, and gear, The House of Wolves went that extra mile by adding new social spaces, Trials of Osiris playlist, and the Prison of Elders arena.

The Taken King has already promised many changes coming to Destiny such as Nolan North taking over the voice of Ghost, but the biggest change yet may just be Bungie’s storytelling. While the core Destiny experience was found lacking in this department, Bungie has been continuing to work to improve this area by adding characters like Eris Morn, which certainly helped – but failed to completely satisfy fans. With this latest expansion, the developer is making story a focal point of the experience.
