Bungie’s dedication to revamping the sci-fi MMO after Year One has certainly paid off in a huge way. In fact, the DLC surpassed day one sales records of previous add-ons for PlayStation consoles, and it’s likely that the successes will continue to roll in for the studio should they pay close attention to the dedicated community of Destiny players.
One of the best ways for the studio to remain engaged and keep its fan base in the loop will definitely come by way of their week to week bulletins for the action-RPG. Now, during today’s Bungie’s Weekly Update, the company has divulged that they will be adding another new mode to the Crucible that’s live as of writing called Zone Control, and it’s the featured activity of this week.
According to The Taken King’s Senior Designer Andrew Weldon, Control was the most frequented mode during Year One, but players wanted a more “objective-focused experience” and Zone Control is the answer to those requests. In explanation of the mode’s specifics, Weldon says:
For the uninitiated, rather than getting points for initially capturing a control point, neutralizing an enemy’s control point, or killing an enemy like in the original Control, players are encouraged to hold each area with team-based skills for as long as possible in order to rack up their score for a win. In addition to the new mode, Bungie also notes that with the introduction of Zone Control comes the debut of featured weekly PvP playlists. Plus, on top of getting Legendary Marks for finishing a daily match, Guardians can earn 10 Legendary Marks for a total of 30 over the course of the week with each of their first three wins in the weekly featured playlist, which will have a varied rotating mode every week.
While many denounced Bungie at first for all of the planned changes announced prior to the release of The Taken King, a lot of people are eating crow, for the update and expansion has gone on to receive a lot of favorable reviews. At the very least, most hypercritical fans have to admit that the new loot system is a massive improvement. Should Bungie continue to provide support and refinements for the game such as the new Zone Mode, Year Two ought to thrive.
