Destiny 2 players who are at Power level 300 or higher (the current Power level cap is 305) are able to gain 300 Power level engrams by trading in Crucible tokens to Shaxx. As Shaxx resets weekly, players should have at least until the next weekly reset (which will occur on Tuesday, November 14) to collect these 300 Power level engrams. As such, there is no rush to grind for Crucible tokens and players can feel free to go at their own pace.
305 is the current Power level cap and so earning 300 Power level engrams will not make players any more powerful than that (even with the use of mods). But being able to collect such powerful gear will allow Destiny 2 players to infuse gear that is currently sitting at a much lower Power level. The infusion will make that weaker Power level gear a lot stronger.
Infusing gear of a lower Power level can be incredibly beneficial to players who have a favorite item. Their favorite gun may feel great to use or it may offer a desirable trait, but players may be unable to equip it as it will put them at a significant disadvantage against the game’s enemies.
As many of Destiny 2’s activities have Power level requirements (including the Leviathan raid), players will have to equip their best gear rather than the gear they like best in order to get over these barriers. Shaxx’ 300 Power level engrams also give players a better chance of just unlocking a more powerful version of their favorite item instead of needing to infuse the weaker one.
This is also incredibly useful for those who have yet to find an active Destiny 2 clan. Clans come with milestones that unlock powerful engrams for everyone but if a clan is not active, large, or particularly skilled, players will miss out on these engrams each week. The Shaxx unlocks will feel like salvation for solo or clanless players.
Although Shaxx’ powerful engrams are welcomed, not everyone will be satisfied. Some may argue that this still isn’t a good enough reason to get back into the game. As the upcoming Curse of Osiris DLC raises the Power level cap, then that will should provide those disappointed players with a better chance to become more powerful. But for now, everyone else will be headed to the Crucible.
Destiny 2 is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
