While players have managed to find small workarounds, the efforts of one Destiny 2 player may have found the most efficient way to bank excess glimmer. The game makes it impossible to store glimmer in the player’s vault, so the trick to going over the 100,000 limit is to actually purchase a season 3 Sparrow called The Otherside. This exotic sparrow costs players 7,500 Glimmer and 5 Legendary Shards, but when it’s dismantled, players nearly get everything back they put into it at 5000 Glimmer and the 5 shards. It’s essentially a 2,500 Glimmer fee to store 5,000 Glimmer for a later date.

Keep in mind that when at the 100k Glimmer cap, players can no longer earn any additional glimmer from normal activities like bounties, dismantling rare gear, and opening chests. Purchasing these sparrows not only frees up more Glimmer space to continue earning, but they can also be stockpiled inside of the player’s vault to be dismantled at a later date. So technically speaking, a player at the 100k cap who also has 10 sparrows stored actually has access to 150k when needed.

Outside of masterworking and infusing gear, this trick would have come in handy at the beginning of this current season when most players were racing to upgrade their Chalice of Opulence. Players required a material known as Imperials to upgrade the power of the chalice, which could be found through weekly bounties and more importantly, the Golden Barge floating above Watcher’s Grave on Nessus.

With the rush about over as the season nears the end, players are currently gearing up in preparation of the Shadowkeep expansion. While there’s still a lot that players don’t know, it’s more than likely that Bungie has a new activity planned that will likely require mountains of glimmer.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
