Original story follows:
With only a week left before the biggest update arrives for Destiny 2 since it launched last year, players received the first round of massive changes coming in Year 2. In preparation of the Forsaken expansion, update 2.0 brought with it significant changes to the sandbox experience including exotic armor, weapons, gear, and class abilities. While most of the new gear and weapons won’t be available until the expansion finally drops next week, some players have discovered a few items may have arrived earlier than expected.
With this week’s Flashpoint milestone taking place on Mars, players are starting to discover that the loot pool rewards have been updated with a chance to drop Destiny 2: Forsaken loot. Reddit user Bacje16 posted a screenshot of a brand new SMG called the Trackless Waste, which dropped after completely finishing the Flashpoint Milestone for this week and turning it into Ana Bray. The Scatterhorn armor gear set also seems to be in the loot table as well, with many players getting access to it for all three classes.
While this is no doubt an exciting surprise, something like this isn’t uncommon for the franchise. Prior to the well-received Taken King expansion for the first Destiny, players were not only able to play the new Rift mode in Crucible but were receiving new weapons for their troubles as well. Not only that, the exotic sidearm Trespasser also dropped for players a week before Rise of Iron launched.
What’s interesting though is that this could actually be an accident, as users have posted that some Forsaken gear they’ve found is actually bugged. One screenshot shows a user finding the Scatterhorn Gauntlets for the Titan class which reportedly features the perk Momentum Transfer. However, the shader slot lists the words ‘TEMP’ acting as a placeholder until next week. Other players have also reported finding Forsaken gear that is invisible when equipped or just don’t look quite right.
In addition to potentially finding new loot in the game right now, there’s a laundry list of things that have changed for good in the base experience. Read through the full list of what’s changed in Update 2.0 right here.
Destiny 2: Forsaken launches September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
