A member of the Bungie community forums who goes by the handle “Svarog” recently created a thread to voice this concern, and Bungie addressed the concern directly According to Bungie, Destiny 2’s Warmind expansion does not require ownership of Curse of Osiris; adding that getting up to the necessary character level will take longer without the expansion.
Unlike with Curse of Osiris, several frequent fan requests like increased vault space with be coming to Destiny 2 with the free update released alongside Warmind. So, not having to bother with the notoriously underwhelming DLC will certainly help some of those sitting on the fence. If Warmind does indeed deliver on the experience it’s promising, then the decision facing most Destiny 2 players should become an easy one.
Despite some questionable additions like the Eververse’s new Prismatic Matrix, Destiny 2’s next expansion appears to be coming together nicely. Bungie has promised a slew of new weapons and armor for players to gather and try out, and has even made some exclusive to the game’s high-level activities; high-tier Destiny 2 players will finally have something they can strive for. So long as most of the new gear isn’t locked within the Eververse cash shop, fans might find themselves with some genuine praise to throw Bungie’s way after months of widespread disappointment.
Even with Warmind’s new mode and strikes, there’s no guarantee that the DLC will be able to deliver a satisfactory experience. Given everything that’s happened so far, fans have every reason to suspect that the new expansion will be just as underwhelming as Curse of Osiris. However, it’s hard to think that making Warmind a success isn’t at the top of Bungie’s list of priorities. Now that Curse of Osiris is out of the picture, perhaps they’ll be able to do exactly that.
Destiny 2 Warmind will be out on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on May 8th.
