While there are other Vow of the Disciple raid weapons worth chasing, Forbearance has been one of the most popular ones since the Destiny 2 endgame activity debuted. More importantly, Forbearance, like all the raid weapons except for the exotic pulse rifle, is craftable after players have acquired 5 Deepsight Resonance versions.
Why is Forbearance So Popular?
Forbearance’s popularity has a lot to do with the fact it is a wave frame grenade launcher. There aren’t a lot of wave frames in Destiny 2 at the moment, but those that are available (or were available) have all been pretty fun to use.

For those that might not know, wave frame grenade launchers are the ones that put a trail of energy on the ground starting at the spot of impact and extending forward. Forbearance is an arc elemental wave frame, but there is also the solar-based Explosive Personality available from Season of the Risen and the Deafening Whisper that was formerly available from Season of the Hunt. Bungie even introduced an exotic wave frame GL this season called Dead Messenger that sends out three energy trails instead of one.
Best Perks for Forbearance Grenade Launcher
Beyond being a unique type of grenade launcher that is great for clearing groups of minor enemies, Forbearance has some possible perks that push it over the edge. Arguably the biggest perk that Forbearance can roll with that all the other wave frame GLs cannot is Chain Reaction. So, not only will the wave of energy carve a path through enemies, but those defeated enemies will also explode into more arc energy.
There are obviously other perks that Destiny 2 players might want on their Forbearance like Rampage or One for All, but Chain Reaction is easily the most popular and most unique. Anyone who played around with Salvager’s Salvo from a few seasons back knows how potent the perk can be on a grenade launcher.
The left-hand perk column for Forbearance has a couple of solid options like Unrelenting and Genesis, but Ambitious Assassin seems to be the best perk for this slot. Since Forbearance shouldn’t have any trouble getting at least one kill (if not close to a dozen based on enemy density), triggering AA is no problem.
Here are all the possible perks for Forbearance:
Major Perk Slot 1
Unrelenting: Rapidly defeating targets triggers health regeneration. Genesis: Breaking a combatant’s shield with this weapon fills its magazine from reserves. Energy weapons regenerate ammo on hit when matching the damage type to the combatant’s shield. Stats for All: Hitting three separate targets increases weapon handling, stability, reload, and range for a moderate duration. Sleight of Hand: Final blows with weapons or abilities while this weapon is stowed increase its handling, stability, and reload speed for a short duration. Ambitious Assassin: Overflows the magazine based on the number of rapid kills before reloading. (NOTE: Will only double ammo count to two) Surplus: Increases handling, reload speed, and stability for each fully charged ability. Steady Hands: Kills provide improved handling for all weapons for a short duration.
Major Perk Slot 2
Golden Tricorn: Final blows with this weapon grant bonus damage. While this buff is active, grenade or melee kills of the same damage type greatly increase its damage and duration. Wellspring: Kills with this weapon generate ability energy. This energy is divided between your uncharged abilities. Turnabout: Using this weapon to break the shield of a combatant or a Guardian using their Super will grant you an overshield. One for All: Hitting three separate targets increases damage for a moderate duration. Bait and Switch: Deal damage with all equipped weapons within a short time to give this weapon a damage boost. Chain Reaction: Each final blow with this weapon creates an elemental damage explosion. Rampage: Kills with this weapon temporarily grant increased damage. Stacks 3x.
As far as the other two perk slots, one will give both types of rounds and the other slot should favor reload speed. The key is to be able to reload Forbearance as fast as possible to trigger Ambitious Assassin.
On top of all of that, Forbearance is also a Vow of the Disciple raid weapon, which means it includes the Souldrinker intrinsic perk. This perk heals the user based on the number of weapon hits before reloading and it is a big deal on this wave frame GL. After clearing a large swath of enemies, players should be able to reload and get a massive amount of health back.
Essentially, the Ambitious Assassin and Chain Reaction combo turn Forbearance into a stronger version of Salvager’s Salvo. It’s great for clearing enemies at a rapid clip and is downright fun to use. The only tricky part is getting the right roll or getting 5 Deepsight Resonance versions. Thankfully, Destiny 2 players can purchase 1 Deepsight raid weapon per account per week after clearing the Vow of the Disciple raid.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
